Some organizations may have a separately configured Participants tab on the Matter Overview page. If so, follow the same instructions described below when adding participants from the Law Firm tab.
Adding a Participant to a Matter
Participants are added to matters for tracking or informational purposes. For example, you may add an expert witness and include their contact information to send reminders or court appearance details.
If the participant does not exist in your contacts database—or your search does not return a match—you must first create a contact.
- Open the Participants tab on the Matter Overview page.

Click +Add. The Add Participant window displays.
- Enter search criteria in the Search Contacts field.
- Optional: Select a value from the Contact Type list to narrow your search.
- Click Search. The Contact List updates to reflect your search criteria.

Click the contact name that you want to add. The Add Participant window updates with Participant Info and Participant Role sections.
- Select a role from the drop-down list.

Optional: Select the Is Lead check box to assign a lead role to the participant if there are others with the same role on the matter.
A user icon (
) will display next to this participant in the Participants list on the Matter Overview page.
- Optional: Select Allow Law Firm to View if the law firm should have visibility into the participant details.
- Click Save.
Updating Participants on a Matter
You can update a participant’s role or modify law firm visibility as needed.
- Check the box next to the participant on the Participants tab of the Matter Overview page.

Click Update. The Edit Participant window displays.
- Optional: Select a role from the drop-downlist.

Optional: Select the Is Lead check box to assign a lead role to the participant if there are others with the same role on the matter.
A user icon (
) will display next to this participant in the Participants list on the Matter Overview page.
- Select Allow Law Firm to View if the law firm should have visibility into the participant details.
- Click Save.
Removing Participants from a Matter
Participants may need to be removed if roles change or individuals leave the organization.
- Select the check box to the left of the participant name(s) to be removed on the Participants tab of the Matter Overview page.
- Select Remove.
- Click Yes, Remove.
The participant is removed from the matter.
