Contract Fields collect and store information about contracts. These fields can capture details about the agreement, the parties involved, or reporting attributes.
You can add different types of fields, including dates, rich text, buttons, and related fields.
Field Examples

Before you add or edit any fields, be sure to consult with your account manager. Editing or adding fields can have unintended consequences if not implemented properly.

Accessing the Contract Fields Administration Page
You must have the CLM Admin role under Contracts to perform the actions detailed in this section.
For CounselLink+ Users:

Click the Corporate Profile option from the drop down under your name in the header.

Click Contract Fields under the CLM Administration section of the QuickLinks panel.
The Contract Fields Admin page displays.
For non-CounselLink+ Users:
- Click Administration on the side toolbar.

Click the Contract Fields tab.
Adding Contract Fields in CLM
Adding Predefined Fields
Predefined fields represent commonly used contract attributes and are typically required.
Available predefined field options:
- Region
- Country
- Entity
- Department
- Category
- Type

Scroll to the bottom of the Summary section and click Pre-Defined fields.

Select the predefined fields.
- Click Save.
Adding Rich Text Fields
Rich text fields allow formatted content (paragraphs, tables, images) to be stored with formatting preserved.
- Click +Add field under the Summary or Contract Request section.
- Enter a Field name.

Select Rich Text from the Field Type dropdown.
- Mark as Required if necessary.
- Click Save.
Adding Summary or Post-Execution Fields
You may add additional custom fields under:
Summary (general contract information)
Post-Execution (information captured after execution)
- Click +Add field under the Summary or Post-Execution section.
- Enter a Field name.
- Select one of the following field types:
- Checkbox
- Date
- Multi Select
- Numeric
- Decimal
- Radio Button
- Select
- Text
- Text area
- Click the check box if it is a required field.
Defining Contract Field Relationships
Field relationships allow you to associate related fields with specific categories.
- Click the Relations tab on the Contract Fields administration page.

Click +Add related field where you wish to add it.

Select a Category from the dropdown.
If you can't find the right field, click the Contract Fields link at the bottom to create your contract field.
- Select a Related field from the dropdown.
- Click Make Related.
Editing the Contract Fields Layout Page
You can rearrange the field location and change the size of the field cells on your contract under the Layout tab.

Click the Layout tab on the Contract Fields administration page. Or, click Next from the Relations tab.

Hover over a field to reveal a grid to its left side. Drag and drop it to your desired location.

Optional: Click the arrow at the end of the field to change its size.
- Click Save.
Setting Up the Contract Request Form
You can configure dynamic contract request forms using Parent and Related Fields.
Benefits:
Captures complete information at request stage
Reduces follow-up for missing data
You must have the CLM Admin role to configure contract request forms.
Setting up Contract Fields
- Scroll to the Contract Request section under the Contract Fields tab.

Click +Add field.
- Fill out the required fields.

Click Save.
Creating Related and Parent Fields
Definitions
Parent Fields: Control which related fields appear.
Related Fields: Display based on the selected parent field value.
- Scroll to the Contract Request section under the Relations tab.

Click +Add new parent field. The Add new parent field window displays.
- Select the parent field from the dropdown.
- Click Create.
- Click +Add related field.
- Associate the parent field value with the related fields you would like to appear on the request.
- Click Make Related.
- Click Save.
